Apple releases macOS Big Sur 11.5 with bug fixes and security updates

As Apple’s attention turns to the forthcoming macOS Monterey, it has issued the macOS Big Sur 11.5 update that’s chiefly a bug-fix and security release.

Following the usual many rounds of developer and public beta releases, Apple has now issued macOS Big Sur 11.5. It’s now the current version and is what will be shipped on new Macs.

Its predecessor, macOS Big Sur 11.4, brought with it support for the new lossless and spatial audio features of Apple Music. In comparison, 11.5 does not appear to have added noticeable feature or revisions.

As is normal, Apple has not announced any extensive details about the update. Given the announcement of macOS Monterey, however, it is now unlikely that we will see any more significant feature additions to Big Sur.

The update is now rolling out worldwide and compatible Macs will automatically prompt users to install it. Users can also go to System Preferences, Software Update, to begin the process.
