Apple’s iPhone Dominated the Japanese market all year long and took the market by storm with their 5G iPhone 12 in Q4


     

    A new analytical report from IDC Japan announced shipments of smartphones in Japan for the fourth quarter of 2020 (October to December) and for the year 2020 (January to December). The report stated that Apple iPhone shipments were up 8.3% year-on-year.

     

    For the full year of 2020, shipments of smartphones in Japan were 33.633 million units, an increase of 5.9% over the previous year. Among the top five companies by vendor, Apple took the lead with 15.637 million units accounting for 46.5% share. Apple shipments were up 8.3% year-on-year.

    As for the Fourth Quarter of 2020, Apple took a commanding lead with shipments of 6.015 million units, up 13.8% y/y, mainly due to their new 5G-enabled iPhone 12 models.  Apple took the lead wtih 52.6% market share.
