Belkin recalls wireless charger sold by Apple because of fire, shock risks

Belkin is recalling an iPhone wireless charging stand that was sold in Apple Stores and on Apple’s website because of fire and shock hazards.

According to Belkin, a manufacturing defect in the device’s power supply could cause it to overheat and increase the risk of catching fire or shocking users. The company advises anyone who owns the product to stop using it and to unplug it from its power source immediately. Belkin added that it would refund users who bought the charger.

As of writing, no injuries or damage has been reported from the safety hazard. The recall does not affect any other wireless charger sold by Belkin or Apple.

The Portable Wireless Charger + Stand Special Edition is an $80 charging stand that was sold on Apple’s website and at its brick-and-mortar retail locations, as well as through Belkin’s online storefront. It features 10W charging speeds for compatible devices and a removable 10,000mAh battery pack.
