Black Friday, how to choose the best Smartphone for gaming

Smartphones: the mini computers of the future that we carry around in our pockets. Powerful enough to not only keep us connected at all times but also play some pretty respectable games. That’s not to say there aren’t any modern titles out there. Developers have acknowledged and embraced the power of the mini chips in these devices and we have 3D shooters, cards based, RPGs, and indie platformers coming out every month.

Gaming on a smartphone seemed like a laughable offense just a few years ago, but technology does what technology does and it’s pretty common nowadays.

And you might be asking yourself “Do I need a mobile platform?”, and  “What makes a good phone for gaming?”. Either because you want to dip your toes into it or you want to buy one for somebody.

One of the main advantages of mobile gaming is that you can play a wide variety of games. Although recent titles may only be available on games consoles and PC, there is still a wide selection of games and apps that you can download on iOS and Android. If you’re wanting to play a dungeon crawler or a scenic point and click adventure, an intense RPG, or an online casino spins game, then you can easily do so on your mobile.

Just like with handheld game consoles, the main advantage of mobiles is that the devices are portable. You can easily play your favorite poker games or strategy games while waiting for a bus or traveling by train. As long as you have a decent battery life, you can play mobile games wherever you may be.

Do you need the newest, most expensive phone to game on? No, not really. There’s plenty of choices out there. While desktop computers may be a superior platform for gamers, mobile technology is improving and constantly finding ways to provide a better user experience. For example, Apple continues to release new phone models such as the iPhone XR that has the longest ever iPhone battery life, fastest performance, and advanced LCD displays.

A great mobile phone will take the place of your camera, keep you informed and entertained on the move and still leave you with enough battery when you get home. But it’s not easy to find a model that can succeed on all counts. With prices rising and more than ever to choose from, it’s important to spend your money wisely on a phone that will last.

The best-in-class is always nice to have, but you can still squeeze adequate gaming performance out from more affordable models, and there are plenty of old models that are sold at cheaper prices nowadays. The older iPhones have a slight edge over the newer ones, the Galaxy S10 line is still insanely good, the Google Pixel 3a XL delivers where it matters. Look for a big enough screen, a midrange processor (Snapdragon 670, Snapdragon 700 series), be sure to specifically research how the touchscreen performs on the models you have in mind, and off you go. You can check out the few models that we recommended on top as a good starting point, but these are by no means your only options.

And with that said, you have a full week to make the most out of your investment since technology and especially outdated technology are prone to get the most out of any sales discount during these times. So get going and jump on the train of mobile gaming!
