April 5th was the day that LG rang the death knell for its long-time loss-making mobile phone business, a day that sees another Android stalwart bite the dust. The announcement was all the sadder because we’ve been looking forward to seeing the much-teased Rollable smartphone launch, which, like the upcoming V70 flagship, has been canceled. Some alleged images of the two canceled phones have come to light on Twitter, though, and we’ve got them embedded for you after the break.
First up is the Rollable whose picture was posted on Twitter by @FrontTron, showing the rollable device with its display retracted, although a prototype was shown to be working during CES 2021.
The alleged image of the V70 shows off a design reminiscent of the Velvet, in fact, it’s so close that it may actually be a picture of the Velvet, with a trio of cameras and flash vertically aligned on the rear panel without a camera housing to be seen. The design was so pleasing that it inspired Samsung’s Galaxy A-Series for 2021. The other two images are of a concept and a list of dream specifications and so casts doubt as to the legitimacy of the alleged V70 picture.
As mentioned, neither the LG Rollable nor V70 will ever come to market thanks to the closure of the brand’s mobile business after being unable to agree to a sale to a third party. One of the prototypes may surface on eBay in the coming months, so it may be worth keeping an eye on the site in the future.
