Corning’s new Gorilla Glass with DX/DX+ promises to let smartphone cameras take better photos

Your phone may have a massive camera sensor but if the optic coating isn’t up to scratch the lens could be scratched or images could suffer from light reflection. Here to save the glass layer on the rear camera housing is Corning’s new Gorilla Glass with DX and DX+ products which Samsung will be the first brand to make use of.

With around 1.4 trillion photos projected to be taken during 2021, the ability to take the best possible image with your smartphone under all lighting conditions has become more important than ever before.

“Antireflective coatings have long been used on conventional cameras to improve light capture,” said Jaymin Amin, vice president and general manager, Corning Gorilla Glass. “However, these coatings have a propensity to scratch easily, negatively impacting image quality. Corning’s Gorilla Glass composites not only provide mobile device camera lens covers with enhanced scratch resistance and durability compared to traditional coatings, but also the improved optical performance required for these devices.”

Considering the timing of Corning’s unveiling of its new Gorilla Glass with DX/DX+ protection it wouldn’t be much of a leap to assume that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be the first to sport the new product on their rear camera housings.
