‘Dark Souls-like’ Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is coming to Xbox and PC in 2022

During the Square Enix show at E3 2021, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was announced for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One consoles, PS4, PS5, and Windows 10 (and Windows 11) PCs in 2022. Notably, a free trial for the game is available on PS5 right now until June 24, 2021.

According to a press release, the game’s story focuses on Jack, Ash, and Jed as they attempt to thwart the forces of Chaos. The release reads as follows: “Tetsuya Nomura and Kazushige Nojima join forces with Team NINJA from Koei Tecmo Games to deliver a bold new vision for Final Fantasy. With the memory of their struggle buried deep in their hearts…Jack and his allies, Ash and Jed, burn with resolve to defeat Chaos as they throw open the gates to the Chaos Shrine. Yet doubts remain — are they truly the Warriors of Light the prophecy foretold? ”

“While it is Final Fantasy, it feels different — but there’s no doubt that the blood of Final Fantasy runs through its veins,” said Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Producer for the game. “We’ve undertaken the challenge of finding this difficult middle ground for this mature and stylish title. We need a little time until we’re able to complete it, and while the battle system is a bloody one, it does link to the story, so I hope you’ll use this opportunity to give it a try.”

Based on the trailer, it’s also clear that Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is a Souls-like, with a strong emphasis on precise dodging and melee combat. Are you excited to play it when it comes to Xbox and PC in 2022? Let us know.
