EA reportedly cancels new IP from Motive Studio

A new action-adventure IP from Motive Studio has been canceled by EA. That’s according to a report from Bloomberg, which explains that this new IP wascodenamed Gaia and was an action-adventure game similar to the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Gaia was first developed under the leadership of Ubisoft veteran Jade Raymond. After Raymond departed EA, the project’s leadership fluctuated and clashed while the game suffered setbacks and at least one reboot, especially as Motive Studio worked on other projects, such as assisting with the development of Star Wars Battlefront 2.

While a tiny glimpse of a prototype for this game was seen during last year’s EA Play Live 2020 presentation, the game has now been canceled. Motive Studio is reportedly not in any danger due to this project cancellation however, with the team’s recent game Star Wars: Squadrons seeing critical and commercial success.

A lot of things appear to be shifting around at EA development teams right now and resources being examined, with the Anthem Next overhaul canceled while BioWare doubles down on the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles, the former of which is now reportedly back to being a single-player role-playing game.
