Ever-hungry for more user data, Facebook is said to be developing its own smartwatch that will incorporate a detachable display with a pair of cameras that can share content to the social media giant’s array of apps, including Instagram. The smartwatch could launch during summer 2022 according to reports.
Having already spent around $1 billion on developing a smartwatch according to The Verge, Facebook’s first smartwatch is said to sport a 1080p rear camera with autofocus and a front camera for video calls and likely selfies as well. LTE connectivity is said to also be present which is probably Facebook’s effort to avoid the need for an iOS or Android smartphone.
The display unit will detach from the strap, and Facebook is already trying to get third-party accessory-makers on board, which could result in the display section being used as a GoPro camera. The watch is also said to feature the ability to control Facebook’s AR glasses and may have a built-in heart rate sensor, which may alarm those that think Facebook already knows far too much about them.
Poised to be announced during summer 2022, Facebook’s smartwatch could cost as much as $400, which could make it difficult to sell although the company is said to be setting its sights in the low six figures bracket. The smartwatch could come in white, black, and gold and may eventually be sold in wireless carrier outlets as well as online.
