Google says that the Android 12 beta is its most downloaded beta ever

The second Android 12 beta began rolling out a couple of days ago and it seems that this year’s testing program is the most popular that Google has ever held. And while this is likely due in part to the number of OEM partners who have jumped on board the Android 12 beta program such as OnePlus, Xiaomi, OPPO, and more, it’s still an impressive feat.

According to Dave Burke, the Android VP of Engineering, the Android 12 beta is the most popular “by far” although he didn’t release the figures behind the statement. One reason for the popularity of the Android 12 beta could be the new design language that changes the aesthetics of the Android OS for the first time in a couple of years. Called Material You, the new UI is a refreshing shot in the arm for the Android OS that has generally remained the same cosmetically over the past 3-4 years.

In the meantime, according to the official timeline given by Google, we can expect the third Android 12 beta to roll out before the end of July.

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries an OPPO Find X2 Pro in his pockets, a Galaxy Tab S5e in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
