Google’s latest Pixel Feature Drop brings a host of new and improved goodies to its range of smartphones, building on the previous two such updates. With expanded support for Smart Compose, new wallpaper apps, a new night-time display that appears when you use the Pixel Stand and Clock app. Google is also dishing out some attention for Android Auto that will hopefully fix the disconnection issues that Pixel owners are experiencing.
Wallpapers
First up, let’s take a look at the colorful new wallpapers produced by artists from around the world to celebrate International Women’s Day. March 8th will see the addition of more new wallpapers from Spanish duo Cahetejack that will “focus on the strength and transformation of women”.
Recorder
Next up is the revamped Recorder app that aims to make it easier to share, transcribe (English only), and search the audio you’ve captured. You can share links to non-Pixel owners and at recorder.google.com you can access the whole Recorder playback experience.
Underwater Photography
If you’ve been dying to use your Pixel for underwater photography you now have the option of buying the Kraken Sports Universal Smart Phone Housing to capture all the fishy pictures that you need. You’ll have access to your favorite Pixel camera features underwater, which means you should be able to get some great shots. In case you are interested, the Kraken case costs $325.
Smart Compose
Smart Compose has been a revelation for Gmail users, and now it’s the turn of the Pixel to get its sentences completed in select messaging apps. It will suggest common phrases and help you minimize typos in those important chats about who is the best superhero, which is IronMan, of course.
Bedtime
If you put your Pixel on the official Pixel Stand, you’ll see an updated bedtime schedule that, in conjunction with the Clock app, will show an updated display with redesigned notifications. This feature is only available on the following Pixels with wireless charging:
- Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 5
This latest Pixel Feature Drop is already rolling out via OTA with some of the improvements coming via app updates on the Play Store, so be sure to check to see if your Pixel has the latest versions installed.
