Heads-up: Samsung’s One UI 3.1 update doesn’t include the option to switch to Google Discover

Switching over to Google Discover on the Galaxy S21 was a beautiful thing for those of us who aren’t a fan of Samsung Daily, or rather Samsung Free as it is now known. With the proliferation of One UI 3.1 updates to other Galaxy S and Note devices, it’s sadly not the case for those whose phones are being updated to this latest version of Samsung’s custom UI. Meaning that it’s only an option for those buying a Galaxy S21 or any other handset that launches running One UI 3.1.

It’s a shame that this is the case, forcing users who prefer the Google Discover feed to install third-party launchers just so they can remove Samsung Free from the left-most card on the home screen. Hopefully, the option is included in the Android 12 update, but that’s certain to be at least 8-9 months away even for flagship devices.

Until then, if you really want to switch from Samsung Free over to Google Discover, without switching brands, you’ll need to look at buying one of the upcoming Galaxy handsets such as the A52 or A72.
