The Huawei P30 Pro launched back in 2019, but the handset maker could be looking to breath new life into the handset this year, with a new version called the P30 Pro ‘New Edition’.
It’s not out of the ordinary for Huawei to release ‘New Edition’ versions of its smartphone months after the initial release. They’ve done this before with the P30 Lite New Edition, which was a P30 Lite with Google Play Services on-board.
We’re assuming that’s going to be the same idea behind the P30 Pro New Edition — a P30 Pro with Google Play Services on-board.
Huawei hasn’t officially taken the wraps off of this refreshed variant. Instead, it was spotted in a promotion running in Germany. Huawei paired up with a couple of carriers for this offer — buy a P30 Series phone, get a Huawei tablet, presumably, for free.
But, if you look at the terms of the offer, they’ve actually included the Huawei P30 Pro New Edition as one of the eligible phones:
“The following promotional devices take part in this promotion: HUAWEI P30 Pro / HUAWEI P30 / HUAWEI P30 lite NEW EDITION / * HUAWEI P30 Pro NEW EDITION…”
The promotion runs from May 15 to June 4. This could indicate that Huawei could be looking at this refreshed P30 Pro very soon.
It could be an excellent release, as the phone is quite a beast — adding Google Play Services to the device might make it a more attractive sell in Western markets, especially when smartphone sales are down significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
