Instagram Lite gets its first taste of bloatware with the addition of the Reels feature

Remember when Instagram was a social media app that you opened up to look at pictures of cats, travel, food, and fashion without being bombarded with often useless features? It was great when you could check the content you were actually interested in seeing instead of it being the choice of some random algorithm, of course now it’s a bloated mess. Sadly, the Instagram Lite app that many of us flocked to is now getting its first helping of bloatware in the form of the Reels feature.

The Instagram Lite app is aimed at the Indian market for use with low-bandwidth or entry-level handsets, and this is where the Reels function will roll out.

”Now with this update, everyone using the Instagram Lite app in India will be able to view Reels with the Reels tab. This feature was expedited for India because of the traction Reels is seeing in India, and the early adoption of the new Instagram Lite app.”

Weirdly, users won’t be able to create Reels of their own on the Lite app and will only be able to watch the short-format videos from other users. To get the Reels function you’ll need to update the Instagram Lite app to the latest version.
