It looks like all the Folds will use Samsung’s 120Hz LTPO displays in 2021

It’s no secret that Samsung is producing displays for Google, Xiaomi, OPPO, and more so that they can launch their own take on the foldable smartphone, and now we’ve got some specifications that should whet your appetite. According to a report, all foldable smartphones using panels made by Samsung will feature LTPO technology and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The report comes from Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), and it means that Google’s much-rumored Pixel Fold will sport LTPO technology, and most likely also Samsung’s UTG (Ultra-Thin-Glass). Besides Google, Samsung is also providing foldable panels for the following devices in order of size:

    • 6.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3
    • 7.55-inch Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3
    • 7.57-inch Google Pixel Fold
    • 7.11-inch Oppo foldable
    • 8.1-inch Xiaomi foldable
    • 8.2-inch Vivo foldable

On the one hand, it doesn’t make sense for Samsung, the current leading exponent of foldable smartphones, to manufacture such displays for its competitors. On the other, it’s a brilliant move by Samsung both to make foldable smartphones a mainstream product as well as drive down development costs which will make the cost more palatable to its customers.

Regardless of Samsung’s reasoning, we’ve got a whole lot of foldable goodness to look forward to over the next four months.
