Leaked renders point to Sony bringing the Xperia Compact series back to life

When it comes to smartphones with flagship processors and displays that fit comfortably in everybody’s hands, there really isn’t much to choose from. Sure, the Pixel 4a is a nice small phone, but a flagship it is not, with the same going for the OnePlus Nord. Sony used to launch big and small versions of its flagships until a couple of years ago, but some new renders point to the brand bringing back its Compact range of premium smartphones in 2021.

Thanks to Steve Hemmerstoffer on Voice, some renders of what appears to be a new Xperia Compact have surfaced, showing a smaller or rather compact design with a tear-drop notch and something of a chin. Make no mistake, Sony was not aiming to break screen-to-body ratio records with this new Compact handset. The top of the phone sports a 3.5mm audio jack which should please a certain group of smartphone users.

According to Hemmerstoffer, the new 5.5-inch Compact has dimensions of 140 x 68.9 x 8.9mm, so it’s got a bit of heft to it. The fingerprint sensor is located on the side, while the rear camera strip includes a 13MP primary sensor, along with a second unspecified camera.

There’s no news on when Sony plans on announcing this new Compact smartphone, but the brand usually announces its new handsets towards the end of February and late August.
