Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy coming to consoles and PC in October

Square Enix E3 showcase has kicked off with a bang with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a single-player, third-person adventure game made in partnership with Marvel, set to release on Oct. 26, 2021, for previous and current-gen consoles and PC.

Developed by Eidos-Montréal, this new Guardian of the Galaxy is not a movie adaptation, though the cast is the same as the ones from the popular MCU movies. The story is also wholly original, but it seems like the Guardians have once again accidentally set off a string of incidents that could turn dire, all set to the backdrop of “a massive galactic war.”

“A distinct mix of sci-fi, family drama, and rock n’ roll attitude with an edgy aesthetic is the foundation for our Guardians franchise”, said Jay Ong, EVP and Head of Marvel Games. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Eidos-Montréal knowing they are the team that can deliver on this core promise. The team’s laser-focused vision for our beloved band of misfits shines in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. We are excited for our fans to play it this October.”

The new game is centered around team dynamics, though players will only be able to control Star-Lord. You’ll be able to control team movement and combat. Each character has their own unique abilities, and you’ll be able to combine the team’s abilities, giving the action game some tactical elements.

Eidos-Montréal is also implementing “choice and consequence” system, which means that the player’s choices will change the player’s experience, and affect the journey and relationships between Guardians. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will also include a killer soundtrack of classic 1980s hits and original tracks.

This isn’t the first Marvel game Square Enix has published. Marvel’s Avengers released in 2019 but while players enjoyed the single-player story, the multiplayer, glitches, and microtransactions ruined the fun for most. Still, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy looks like it’s shaping up to be one of the best action adventure games of the year.
