Microsoft Teams live transcriptions are on the way to unscheduled meetings

Earlier this year, Microsoft rolled out support for live transcriptions within meetings. At the moment, live transcriptions only work with scheduled meetings, but that’s about to change. According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, unscheduled meetings could gain support for live transcriptions as soon as July 2021 (via Neowin).

In addition to adding support for live transcriptions for unscheduled meetings, Teams will soon support live transcriptions in channel meetings. The related feature is also outlined on the Microsoft 365 roadmap. Live transcriptions within channel meetings are also set to arrive in July 2021.

As is the case with all entries on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the dates are subject to change. The roadmap outlines Microsoft’s plans for features but does not list firm dates for any feature to be released.

These new transcription options should come in handy. While many meetings are scheduled, it’s normal to jump into a meeting. In addition to making meetings more accessible, live transcriptions help everyone follow along within a meeting.

Live transcriptions for scheduled meetings attribute text to specific people. The descriptions of the upcoming transcription features don’t mention speaker attribution, but they will likely support it.
