We’ve seen the leaked specs and renders and now it’s time for the real thing; the Motorola Edge 20 series has been officially unveiled. Consisting of the Edge 20 Lite, the Edge 20, and the Edge 20 Pro, the series of smartphones is aimed at the premium mid-range segment with prices starting from €350 (~$415).

The Motorola Edge 20 Lite is powered by an unspecified MediaTek Dimensity processor with 5G connectivity, which is accompanied by up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. You’ll find a big 5,000mAh battery with 30W fast-charging to keep the lights and in case you were wondering, there is a 3.5mm audio jack present. A trio of cameras consisting of a 108MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and one of those 2MP depth sensors that are generally there to make up the numbers. A 32MP selfie camera resides on the central punch-hole in the 6.7-inch OLED display that has FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. From the image, it would appear that the power button pulls double duty as the fingerprint sensor.

Skipping ahead to the Motorola Edge 20 Pro, we find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 processor with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of built-in storage (UFS 3.1). A 4,500mAh battery with 30W fast-charging is present as is IP52 certification.

The 6.7-inch OLED display boasts FHD+ resolution with a 144Hz refresh rate as well as up to 576Hz touch latency, whilst also sporting a central punch-hole for the 32MP selfie camera that features Quad Pixel technology. The rear panel houses a 108MP main camera with 9-in-1 pixel binning, an 8MP periscope lens with 5x zoom, and a 16MP ultra-wide camera. The camera setup’s main claim to fame is the ability to take 8K UHD video @24fps.

As the middle sibling, the Motorola Edge 20 offers a good mix of affordability and premium hardware thanks to it being powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G processor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage. Featuring the same 108MP main camera and 16MP ultra-wide lens as the Edge 20 Pro, a 30x Super Zoom telephoto camera takes the place of the periscope lens. The thinnest of the range, the Edge 20 makes do with a 4,000mAh battery although it does have 30W fast-charging. All three handsets run Android 11 out of the box.

Pricing for the Motorola Edge 20 series goes as follows:

    • Edge 20 Lite: €350 (~$415)
    • Edge 20: €500 (~$595)
    • Edge 20 Pro: €700 (~$830)

On paper, the Edge 20 series looks to be on point for 2021 although the one snag is that it isn’t going on sale in the US and is instead limited to Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. Motorola has stated that it will launch a new 5G Edge handset in North America later this year, though.
