Razer’s tiny USB-C GaN travel charger packs an incredible 130 watts and four ports

There is a lot of innovation going on in the field for those not keeping abreast of portable chargers. The latest is Gallium Nitride (GaN), which premiered in early 2020 to replace traditional silicon. The result? We get much smaller wall chargers that can also pack more wattage without burning up the place.

And with that, Razer is now getting in on the mix with its new $180 USB-C GaN charger. While not cheap, it does a few noteworthy firsts, including offering 130 watts of total power instead of the standard 100 watts of its competitors.

The Razer USB-C GaN travel charger packs two USB-C (100 watts max) and two Type-A (18 watts max). The total maximum is 130 watts. There are other features like Intelligent charging (directs the most efficient charge to each connected device) and Rapid Power Delivery.

When combined with the direct and foldable plug (versus a corded solution), Razer’s charger is a minuscule 3.2 x 7.7 x 6.2 mm and weighs just 349 grams making it completely pocketable. And fret not non-US customers as Razer has global adapter power plugs to make it work anywhere.

It also comes in either Razer mercury or straight-up black with some lovely green accents.

Because of the universal nature of the Type-C and Type-A outputs, you can use this charger with any laptop that takes a Type-C charge (Mac or Windows-based), tablets, smartphones, and smartwatches. Of course, if powering a gaming laptop where more than 100 watts is needed to supply the CPU and GPU during gaming, you’ll still need the bigger charger that was supplied with the computer – but you can use it for passive charging (when the laptop is in standby).

Current limits of Type-C ports limit it to just 100 watts, but that will change in the coming years as 240 watts will be allowed.

As to when and where you can grab one, Razer says it starts shipping within the next 30 days for $179.99 at Razer.com, RazerStores, and its global retail partners.

In addition to this tiny charger, Razer also introduced its brand-new AMD-powered Blade 14 laptop, and a refreshed Raptor 27 gaming display.
