Relax, the OnePlus 9 will come with a charger in the box

It’s a phenomenon that began with Apple, the removal of a wall charger from retail packaging for ‘environmental reasons’, a practice that was swiftly jumped upon by Samsung as it shipped its new Galaxy S21 series sans chargers. Now, as it did with the 3.5mm audio jack previously, OnePlus has confirmed that its OnePlus 9 series of handsets will come with a wall charger in the box.

The presence of a wall charger in the box was confirmed by OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, who posted the above comment in the official forums. This is good news for those that don’t happen to have a high-spec wall charger just laying about the house, saving them the purchase of an expensive 1st-party wall charger just so they can benefit from the phone’s speeding charging technology.

You may be wondering why I referenced the audio jack in the opening paragraph, if so, this is why. Back when it was trendy to be removing the audio jack from flagship smartphones, OnePlus made a big deal of the OnePlus 6 keeping the port, as opposed to Apple and Samsung ditching it. The following launch window, the OnePlus 6T was announced without an audio jack. So just because the OnePlus 9 series is confirmed to come with a wall charger included in the box, doesn’t mean that the 9T series will also have them.

Anyway, that’s something to worry about in 6 months time. Right now, we can relax knowing that the rumored trio of OnePlus 9 smartphones will come with a wall charger.
