Send us your World Book Day photos

World Book Day 2021 is still being celebrated this year, even though pupils will not return to school until Monday.

The annual celebration of stories sees primary school pupils dressed as their favourite characters, including Harry Potter, Matilda and Alice in Wonderland.

It takes place on Thursday but due to coronavirus restrictions, the majority of pupils will be at home and will not return to classes until Monday.

As a result, the event, organised by the World Book Day charity, will be run differently to take into account restrictions caused by the pandemic.

Every child in full-time education is given a £1 voucher to be spent on books, or can trade in their voucher for one of the specially produced £1 books.

The charity’s website said: “World Book Day will continue to work with schools and nurseries to distribute the £1 book tokens.

“We’re working with teachers and nursery leaders to provide the printed token for those children still in a school setting and a new single-use digital version, that can be printed at home or shown to booksellers on a phone.”
