The ASUS ROG Phone II is official with monster specs and a massive battery

Like it or not, gaming phones have become a ‘thing’, a trend in Android devices that began with the Razer Phone that launched back in 2017. Since then, we’ve seen ASUS join the trend by launching the ROG Phone last year, and now the company that recently announced the Zenfone 6 has unveiled the ROG Phone II sporting a huge battery and the new Snapdragon 855 Plus processor.

Mobile gaming has come a long way since Angry Birds first took the Android world by storm; these days we are playing intense, online games such as PUBG Mobile and Fortnite on our smartphones. With this in mind, ASUS has equipped the ROG Phone II with the new Snapdragon 855 Plus, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. There’s a big 6.59-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and support for 10-bit HDR, and the ultra-sonic touch controls feature a vibration latency of just 20ms.

Keeping the gaming session from crashing out is a huge 6,000mAh battery that features ROG 30W HyperCharge technology (up to 66% charge in 58 minutes) along with PD 3.0 support via the side and bottom USB-C charging ports. This means you can charge the phone in landscape mode while gaming without being inconvenienced by the power cable. An audio jack is also present, and there are dual front-facing stereo speakers providing unobstructed sound.

It may be a gaming phone but the ROG Phone II has a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 48MP main sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens while there is a 25MP selfie camera.

The ROG Phone II follows on from its predecessor with an aggressive metal and glass design with the all-important RGB lighting on the rear panel. It’s a little bigger and taller than the original ROG Phone, and perhaps a little sleeker.

For the moment, there no details on when ASUS will launch the ROG Phone II in the west although the brand does have a press event during IFA 2019 in September where more details could be revealed. Don’t worry, we have an invite for this, and many other IFA press events, so keep it locked to TalkAndroid.

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries a Pixel 2 XL, Huawei P20 Pro, and a Huawei MediaPad M5 (8.4) in his pockets and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around in his backpack. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
