If you’ve got a third-generation or higher Pixel smartphone you’ll be happy to note that the May 2021 security patch is rolling out via OTA, consisting of bug fixes and security improvements. There’s not much to get excited about, but we’ll probably see new features announced during Google I/O 2021.

With a Pixel Feature Drop having rolled out as recently as March, and with Google I/O on the horizon, the May 2021 security patch for the Pixels isn’t terribly exciting and consists mostly of bug fixes and security stuff. There’s a single global build for each of the eligible Pixel smartphones as shown below:

    Global Builds:

    • Pixel 3 (XL): RQ2A.210505.002
    • Pixel 3a (XL): RQ2A.210505.002
    • Pixel 4 (XL): RQ2A.210505.002
    • Pixel 4a: RQ2A.210505.002
    • Pixel 4a (5G): RQ2A.210505.003
    • Pixel 5: RQ2A.210505.003

The May 2021 Security Patch should be rolling out via OTA to Google’s Pixel 3/2 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 4/4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a (5G), and Pixel 5 smartphones but you simply can’t wait, you can download the factory image or OTA file for your device to flash manually.

Once you’ve downloaded the file, you can flash it to your Pixel handset via the Android Flash Tool which can be found here.
