It’s a technology that many have been waiting for ever since the cursed notched and punch-hole displays made their appearance a couple of years ago in search of an ever-smaller bezel. Now it seems that the dawn of under-display cameras is upon us, with ZTE’s announcement that its Axon 20 5G will launch sporting the new technology on December 21st.
Sporting a big 6.92-inch OLED display with FDHD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, 20.5:9 aspect ratio, and 10-bit color depth, you’ll also find an under-display camera, speaker, ambient light sensor, and fingerprint sensor for a totally notch-free experience.
Under the hood is a Snapdragon 765G processor that sports liquid cooling with carbon nanofiber, along with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage. There’s a 4,220mAh battery with 30W fast-charging (Quick Charge 4.0), as well as Super Antenna 2.0 (12 antennas that face 360-degrees) for a stable and fast 5G experience, with the handset supporting the following network bands:

- TDD: B38/40/41
- UMTS: B1/2/4/5/8
- GSM: B2/3/5/8
The under-display selfie camera is a 32MP sensor, while the foursome of cameras found on the rear panel includes a 64MP sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth lens.
Weighing in at 198g, the Axon 20 5G is just 7.98mm thin which means the phone should be comfortable to hold. It’s unfortunate that the Axon 20 5G will launch running Android 10 instead of Android 11, but hopefully, an update will be available sooner rather than later.
The ZTE Axon 20 5G launch in the following markets: United Kingdom, European Union, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. There are no details on pricing as yet which ZTE says will be revealed on the official website soon.
