Chivalry 2 from Torn Banner Studios launched on June 8, and post-launch plans are already in the works. During the PC Gaming Show at E3 2021, developers detailed their plans for the game going forward, acknowledging that the game was definitely not a one-and-done type of release.

Steve Piggott, CEO and creative director at Torn Banner Studios, said that the post-launch plan is currently a mix of “mid and massive-level content updates” coming out this year. The big thing he highlighted was that the team plans to take on different Medieval era periods. This means there will be different armor and weapons to go along with the maps.

“The game at launch is a foundation. It’s intentionally built to be extended,” he said during the presentation.

You can follow along with the post-launch process on the developer’s Trello board, but during hte presentation, the developers detailed the first big map, which will take players to the High Medieval, or late Medieval, period, where nobles and excess reigned supreme. It’ll also have you destroying a couple ships, which looks pretty cool. This will also come with new weapons, some of which will be available at launch and others that’ll be available later.

All in all, Piggott hopes that post-launch content will help the game, in essence, “double in size” for free.

Besides the E3 announcement, the developers published a blog post a late last week detailing some other post-launch efforts, including Xbox Series S versions of the game not running at 60FPS, and the addition of cross-platform capabilities at some point in the future. It said that Xbox cross-generation support is live, but it’s working on PS4 to PS5 cross-generation support at this time.
