Twitter’s Super Follows will let you pay for tweets and special access

It wasn’t long ago that we reported that Twitter was looking at asking users to pay for stuff and today the social media network has announced that people will be able to charge for access to additional content. It’s called ‘Super Follows’ and could involve exclusive tweets, access to a group, deals or discounts, newsletter subscription, or perhaps a special badge that shows everyone that you are ‘special’.

Much like you can do on Patreon, YouTube, and Facebook, the Super Follows feature will let you reward your favorite content creators. Users might want to pay $5 a month to get access to exclusive pics or perhaps see a trailer before everyone else, or perhaps gain knowledge of a leaked smartphone before everyone else.

Twitter also revealed that users would also be able to create and join groups based around a common interest, so if you were into tech you might start a group focused on that. The Communities feature is yet another addition, and it looks to be similar to what Facebook Groups offers, where you can join others to discuss a certain topic that you have in common.

Coming back to Super Follows, while Twitter hasn’t stated that it will be taking a cut of the revenue raised, you can bet that it will keep a percentage for itself as a ‘handlers fee’.
