Following on from the impressive Realme 7 5G (review here) we have the new Realme 8 5G that is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 5G processor, has a 90Hz display, and an affordable price tag of just €199. We’ve got the details for you after the break.

Updated May 5th: Realme has today announced that it will launch the Realme 8 5G in the UK on May 12th, with an early-bird promotion in tow. We still aren’t sure why it’s powered by a lesser processor than the Realme 7 5G that was powered by the impressive Dimensity 800U, but hopefully, it won’t diminish the overall experience. We’ll have details on pricing and availability on May 12th, so keep it locked to TalkAndroid.

With MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 5G chipset providing the grunt, the Realme 8 5G comes in 4/128GB and 8/128GB variants and features Dynamic RAM Expansion Technology (DRE) that works a little like the old ReadyBoost function on Windows, converting storage into virtual RAM. DRE will turn 4GB into 5GB and 8GB into 11GB, enabling smoother multitasking.

The 6.5-inch display features a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling, and FHD+ resolution (2400 x 1080). There’s a big 5,000mah battery that should be good for two days of usage and can be rapidly recharged thanks to the 18W quick charge.

The trio of rear cameras include a 48MP Nightscape camera, a Black and White portrait lens, and a macro lens. There’s a 16MP selfie camera housed in the punch-hole on the top left corner of the display. Coming in Supersonic Black and Supersonic Blue, the Realme 8 5G will go on sale in Europe and the UK during May.
