Wear OS looks on enviously as Google brings YouTube Music app to the Apple Watch

YouTube Music

Despite being a Wear OS fan (yes, there are some), I can’t deny that the Apple Watch is sitting pretty at the top of the smartwatch pyramid. Weirdly, Google is making the experience even better by bringing YouTube Music to the Apple Watch before its own smartwatch platform, which means that users can browse their music collections, control playback, and even select casting options directly from the device.

The app brings direct access to playback controls and recommendations for new songs based on your listening habits, and the ability to cast music from the watch to your speakers with the press of a button be handy.

To try these features, you’ll need the latest version of YouTube Music, a YouTube Premium or YouTube Premium Music subscription, an iPhone and an Apple Watch (Series 3 and above, running watchOS 6 and above). And this is just the beginning for YouTube Music on smartwatches.

Google has promised additional updates on YouTube Music availability on Wear OS which is yet again, second in line after Apple. With Google Play Music service being discontinued, it sure would be good to see a YouTube Music app on Wear OS sometime soon. Not that we are hinting or anything, Hey Google.
