Xiaomi’s Snapdragon 888-powered Mi 11 is official with a 120Hz OLED display and 108MP main camera

    Mi 11

Having promised to be the first smartphone brand to launch a Snapdragon 888-powered flagship before the end of 2020, Xiaomi formally announced its Mi 11 handset in China with a couple of days to spare. Besides sporting the newest Qualcomm processor, the Mi 11 also boasts a big WQHD OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 108MP main sensor. In other words, there’s more going on here than just being powered by the SD888 chipset.

The Mi 11 sports a brighter, cleaner design with the rather unique-looking rear camera housing having a square aesthetic with rounded corners which is a nice change from the bland vertical strips that are so common.

The bezels are uniformly slim on edge of the ‘quad-curved’ OLED panel that measures 6.81-inches, features a 3200 x 1400 (WQHD) resolution, and houses the built-in fingerprint sensor. Gamers will be happy to note the presence of both a 120Hz refresh rate as well as a 480Hz touch sampling rate which should make for an ultra-slick gaming experience. There’s a punch-hole cutout in the top-left corner of the display that houses the 20MP selfie camera.

Accompanying the Snapdragon 888 processor is the choice of either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. A 4,600mAh battery keeps the lights on with 55W wired fast-charging and 50W wireless charging available to top the phone up. You can also make use of the 10W reverse wireless charging facility to charge your accessories. One thing you won’t find is the presence of a charger because Xiaomi has jumped on Apple’s bandwagon, ostensibly for environmental and cost-saving reasons.

The trio of rear cameras consists of a 108MP main sensor with 4-in-1 Super Pixel technology and OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide sensor with a 123-degree FOV, and a 5MP telephoto lens.

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries an OPPO Find X2 Pro in his pockets, a Galaxy Tab S5e in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
