Don’t you hate it when you have tons of stuff to watch but can’t decide which to choose? If so, you’ll soon be able to take the choice out of it and let Netflix decide for you with the new ‘shuffle’ function that is confirmed to be rolling out worldwide during the first half of 2021.

The streaming service has had the ‘shuffle’ function in testing for a few years now and although it’s not yet known what it will be called by Netflix. In an interview with Variety, the COO and chief product officer Greg Peters says that they will come up with something better than Google’s “I’m feeling lucky” button.

Whatever it’s eventually called, once you’ve clicked on the shuffle button it will then pick a show or movie based on your previous viewing preferences. So if you are a horror film junky, you can likely look forward to a nice gory movie, and so on.

”In explaining why Netflix is launching “shuffle play” as a permanent feature, COO and chief product officer Greg Peters said that sometimes users come to the service “and they’re not really sure what they want to watch.”

“It’s really working for us where our members can basically indicate to us that they just want to skip browsing entirely, click one button and we’ll pick a title for them just to instantly play,” Peters said on the company’s Q4 investor interview Tuesday. “And that’s a great mechanism that’s worked quite well for members in that situation.”

Confirmed to be rolling out in the first two quarters of 2021, the shuffle function could mean an easier beginning to your viewing experience on Netflix, or more time spent clicking on ‘Next’ because you still can’t decide if you want to watch what has been chosen for you.
