As the megapixel wars continue once again in the smartphone segment, ZTE is taking a different route to more pixelage with its new Axon 30 Ultra flagship that sports a trio of 64MP rear cameras, one of which is ‘superhuman’. Elsewhere you’ll find the usual flagship accoutrements such as the Snapdragon 888, a big OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 66W fast-charging.

The Trinity Camera System of 64MP cameras consists of the main Sony IMX686 sensor with OIS, an ultra-wide lens with 120-degree field-of-view, and a 64M ‘superhuman’ sensor with 35mm focal length and f/1.9 aperture. ZTE hasn’t revealed the reason that it’s classed as a ‘superhuman’ 64MP sensor as yet, we’ll update the post when we find out. There’s also an 8MP periscope telephoto lens present with 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and OIS. Unlike the Axon 20 5G with its under-display selfie camera, the Axon 30 Ultra uses a traditional punch-hole design to house its 16MP front-facing camera.

The curved 6.67-inch AMOLED display comes with FHD+ resolution, adaptive refresh rates (60/90/120/144Hz), and HDR10+ certifications. Besides the Snapdragon 888 processor, there’s a choice of 8 or 12GB of RAM, with a 4.600mAh battery and 66W fast-charging. One thing you won’t find is wireless charging, unfortunately.

ZTE’s Axon 30 Ultra runs Android 11 as it should considering where we are in 2021. ZTE says that the Axon 30 Ultra will go on sale in the US in unlocked form although pricing has not been revealed at this time.
